Land cutting & welding

Commercial contractors are switching from oxyacetylene, air carbon arc and plasma arc to the R-Gas Torch technology for cost efficient repair & maintenance, field fabrication, salvage, dismantling and emergency rescue.

Projects include airport maintenance, above water & underwater bridge repair, building fabrication, civil engineering, heavy equipment repair, concrete piercing, dozer repair, equipment maintenance, mines, quarries, railroads, road construction, municipal utility maintenance, pump repair, underground utilities, boiler repair, general automotive repair, dam turbine maintenance, excavator repair, agricultural equipment, and demolition.

Underwater cutting & welding

Commercial diving contractors are switching from exothermic and ultra-thermal processes to the R-Gas Torch technology for cost efficient underwater repair and maintenance, underwater fabrication, and underwater salvage.

This technology is ideally suited to offshore construction and offshore engineering projects which encompass drilling platforms, gantry repair, underwater demolition, vessel repair, hull cleaning and propeller maintenance.

This technology is also indispensable for floating marinas, ballasting of structures, pipeline repair, substrate repair, aluminum helicopter pads, piling hardware repair, sea wall construction, and deck machinery servicing. We also make high performance ISO 9001 wet welding electrodes and cutting rods.

How does the world's most powerful torch work?

The futuristic technology of the R-Gas Torch involves a combustion triangle. Diffused oxygen is driven through a tube filled with a proprietary solid fuel. A catalytic spark ignites the tube and fuel. The oxygen and fuel work in tandem with one another causing a vortex effect capable of generating a 10,000 degree particle stream. Harnessing the stream within a tube configuration opens the door to a variety of industrial work possibilities. Although the temperature is twice that of oxyacetylene, the affected zone (HAZ) is very small and will not warp metals. Generating higher operating temperatures translates into vastly superior cutting, gouging and piercing without preheating delays. Oxygen also serves to efficiently remove the molten material from the cutting kerf. Simply put, the greater the oxygen pressure, the longer the particle stream. The ionized plasma particle stream works to melt any material in seconds - even rock and concrete. The plasma-in-a-tube concept ensures maximum versatility, control and safety.

Control

There are three convenient means for controlling the ionized particle stream. The more the operator squeezes the torch trigger the more oxygen flows through the tube and the longer the particle stream. A feathering valve at the base of the torch also allows for oxygen regulation during work applications. A third means for controlling the oxygen involves the oxygen tank regulator. For maximum safety, releasing the torch trigger immediately extinguishes the particle stream. For maximum value, unconsumed tubes can easily be re-ignited. Having three means for regulating the oxygen flow allows operators to adjust the particle stream from a whisper to a roar. The R-Gas Torch can run on as little as 5 pounds oxygen. Consider the possibilities.

24 + Separate Processes

The R-Gas Torch Tubes are designed for the most rugged and diverse industrial applications on both land and sea. Since a tube configuration can be easily bent or angled, over 24 separate operations are possible with a mere change in operator hand position. A handy cable attachment and collet change allows operators to arc cut using our new Arc rods or to arc weld - all using the same torch. No other torch affords such flexibility for shop and field assignments.

Versatility

Why plasma in a tube? Generating a plasma stream within a tube maximizes versatility over oxyacetylene, air-carbon-arc, and plasma-arc processes combined. Consider the following benefits:

Plasma R-Gas Torch Arrow   The R-Gas Torch Tubes may be bent for pinpoint positioning into restricted spaces or tight quarters thereby eliminating out-of-position handicaps. No arc means no side arcing in the smallest quarters. The tube can go where no torch has gone before.
Plasma R-Gas Torch Arrow   The R-Gas Torch Tubes can be optionally extended for greater reach under field equipment for maximum operator safety and convenience. Cutting on an unstable piece of equipment? Or piercing a pin? Use the extender to increase your safety zone.
Arrow   The R-Gas Torch Tubes make serious piercing up to 60" possible in ferrous, nonferrous and refractory materials like rock and concrete. Need to remove a rock? Pierce a couple of six inch holes and apply some water. Thermal shock will fragment the rock.
Arrow   The R-Gas Torch Tubes combine oxygen with a solid propellant inside the tube, eliminating the need for an external power supply, combustible gas or air-compressor. The R-Gas Torch tubes technology is simple in its presentation, yet can outperform all other processes with less.
Arrow   The R-Gas Torch Tubes vary in diameter and length according to the scope of the work or project for maximum selection and economy. Our smallest 1/4" tube can be run as low as five pounds and use only 2 cubic foot of oxygen to cut through a 1/4" plate.
Arrow   The R-Gas Torch Tubes also eliminate preheating, surface preparation, smoke, noise, arc flash, carbon contamination and temper loss. The R-Gas Torch technology makes about as much noise and smoke as a 7018 welding rod, which is minimal, yet amazingly powerful.
Arrow   The R-Gas Torch Tubes can be extinguished and re-ignited and are easily transported from one job site to another with no special handling or storage requirements. Releasing the torch lever automatically extinguishes the tube for maximum safety and economy.

Simply put, plasma in a tube opens doors to unrealized opportunities for both personal and professional use alike.

Size Selectable

Operators select tube diameters and lengths to fit the scope of the work for maximum economy and convenience. Tubes are lightweight and easy to maneuver. Although the longer tubes are generally used for piercing, any size of tube will cut, gouge, pierce, wash and more. The diameter of the tube determines the width of the kerf. Therefore, a 1/4" diameter tube will cut a 1/4" kerf. Since the tubes operate on a catalytic flame process they merely require a number 5 burning lens (the same lens or goggles used with oxyacetylene).

Note: All of our the cutting tubes can be coated for saltwater use.

Plasma R-Gas Torch Arrow   1/4" diameter x 24" length - economy tube
Plasma R-Gas Torch Arrow   1/4" diameter x 24" length - project savers
Arrow   3/8" diameter x 18" length - general purpose

Vaporize Anything

The R-Gas Torch Tubes melt anything and can easily burn through rust, scale, paint, slag and laminates in seconds thereby eliminating surface preparation. There is no material that can withstand the focused magma stream and that includes the following:

Maintenance Issues: No maintenance. Low sound threshold. Easier to use than a conventional torch.

Heating Issues: The only thing teh R-Gas Torch will not do is heat materials so they can be bent. A small sacrifice indeed.

Maintenance Issues: High maintenance. Side-arcing, smoke, very high noise threshold.

Side-arcing Issues: Will arc against objects, lines or metals causing safety issues as well as project repair costs. Conventional plasma is great for cookie cutting. A machine that will cut 1/2" or more cost thousands.

Maintenance Issues: Flashback concerns with acetylene. Tip clogging or destruction via blowback.

Preheating Issues: Changing the metallurgy causes metal fatigue so material breaks adjacent to welds.

Additional Considerations:

The R-Gas Torch is safe, fast and the most versatile product on the market. Operators can regulate the flame by virtue of adjusting the oxygen pressure. There are no gases to mix. Competence can be achieved in mere minutes. Setup is minimal.

M.S.H.A. approved

Now listed as an alternate vendor for air-carbon-arc in mining situations where noise abatement is becoming more regulated.

What about Plasma?

We have taken plasma technology to new heights. Instead of an awkward torch, we have encased a plasma fuel inside of a tube. The tubular design is ideally suited for diverse applications on land as well as underwater settings. The R-Gas Torch can burn through sheet metal without warping and cut through several inches in a single pass due to its active ten-thousand degree particle stream.

Conventional Plasma-arc

Conventional plasma-arc is limited in its capacity. A machine which will cut up to 1/2" costs well over a thousand dollars. The machine is ideal for plate cutting. It is not ideally suited for field repair and maintenance

Questions and Answers

What are the The R-Gas Torch Tubes?

The R-Gas Torch Tubes involves the thermal disruption of a material's inter-molecular equilibrium so as to promote a phase change in the parent work material from a solid to a liquid result. Simply put, the tube operates on the principle of a combustion triangle to vaporize (melt) ferrous, nonferrous and refractory materials without the use of an external power supply, air-compressor or combustible gas.

What is a combustion triangle?

Inexpensive oxygen is propelled through a proprietary tube filled with a combustible fuel recipe. The tip of the tube (and inner fuel recipe) ignite using a catalytic impetus (generally a spark from a 12 volt battery source). The spark and oxygen ignite the fuel recipe causing a cascade fusion effect. Once ignited, the tube and inner recipe will continue to combust (consume) so long as positive oxygen pressure is present. The byproduct of the combustion triangle is a 10,000 degree particle stream. An operator merely brings the particle stream into contact with the parent material for melting to take place. By angling the tube to the plane of the work (or bending the tube), over 24 separate industrial processes are possible. The R-Gas Torch torch also allows the operator a considerable degree of control over the oxygen pressure by way of a micro-metering valve attached to the torch lever. Tubes will efficiently run with as little as five pounds oxygen pressure.

What is a tube?

A tube consists of a seamless copper coated steel tube with an inner wire fuel recipe crimped inside forming a radial axis. Oxygen flows through the spaces between the wire for consistent combustion at low pressure. The wire fuel recipe is recessed at one end of the tube to stop fusion near the torch head. The tube and wire are balanced for smooth consistent burn characteristics. The tubular design serves both as a conduit for the internal delivery of oxygen and a means for focusing the thermal stream for the efficient removal of vaporized material. A focused internal stream allows for greater control of heat. Focused heat eliminates preheating and minimizes collateral heat damage (temper loss). A tubular design also enhances maneuverability (the tubes can be bent) and makes serious piercing through cement and rocks possible.

What is the source of ignition?

Two copper contact plates are secured within an insulated phenolic handle to cause ignition. Heavy gauge wire is connected to the rear of the copper contact plates for easy connection to a twelve volt battery source. When the tip of the tube is shorted across the striker plate the resulting spark ignites the tube causing a cascade fusion effect. Please note the tube does not run on electricity. The tube merely needs a priming spark to initiate the tube process. Stopping the flow of oxygen (releasing the torch lever) will immediately extinguish the process. The tube can be ignited again until completely consumed. Tubes can also be ignited with an oxyacetylene source or a proprietary field igniter tube

What is the oxygen consumption associated with the process?

A (1/4" x 24") tube consumes approximately 2 cubic feet of total oxygen during operation (2 cubic foot per minute). Regulating the oxygen pressure, performance, and economy is accomplished through the torch lever. The more the operator squeezes the torch lever the greater the oxygen pressure. The lever allows the operator to conveniently select the least oxygen pressure to accomplish the job so as to maximize economy.

What is the rate of tube consumption associated with a R-Gas Torch Tube?

A (1/4" x 24") tube will consume in approximately 60 seconds. During that time; however, the tube will outperform any rival industrial process on the market today. For example, 6" of steel can be pierced in 8 seconds. Moreover, 1 linear foot of weld can be removed in 8 seconds. One inch of cut can be accomplished for every second of operation when vaporizing 3/8" plate. When it comes to the diverse challenges confronting the shop and field technician, there is no faster or more powerful process on the market today.

What performance can be expected from the R-Gas Torch?

The actual performance of the tool varies with the material and the project. A 10,000 degree focused particle stream can be used to accommodate numerous applications in both wet an dry environments. As a rule of thumb operators can cut 1" of material a second in 3/8" material. If the torch is hooked to a welding machine for an oxy arc flame, cutting performance is significantly boosted, particularly on cast iron and manganese. Rock can be pieced to a depth of 12" in less than 5 minutes. Many contractors merely pierce a shallow hole into a rock and then pour water into the hole to effect thermal shock - thereby causing the rock to fragment into several easy to remove pieces. The tool will vaporize rust, slag, corrosion, and laminates without surface preparation. The tool will work in the snow, rain, dirt, mud or a sandy environment. There is no maintenance so performance is sustained in the most hostile setting. In short, there is no faster or more reliable torch on the market today.

What cost comparisons are available for the R-Gas Torch Tubes?

Cost comparisons vary with the scope of the project. Elements to be taken into consideration include the initial cost of equipment, equipment maintenance, the cost of downtime, the speed of setup and implementation, the power range of the torch, labor rates, labor skill, the impact on scheduling and manpower utilization, and finally, the cost of consumables. Unparalleled speed, power and versatility make the tube a very viable and cost efficient concept. There is no energy hungry power source to contend with. There is no arc flash (thus, no welding curtains) or noise (no ear plugs) inherent to the the tube process. There is nothing toxic in the the tube process. There is no carbon contamination (thus no carbon grinding). The torch is maintenance free and will even work underwater. A the tube is highly maneuverable and will accommodate over 24 separate industrial processes. There are no material limitations since the tube will readily vaporize any known material. Setup is rapid, as is the operating performance. There is no preheating, pre-cleaning nor surface preparation. One torch can outperform oxyacetylene, air-carbon-arc and plasma-arc combined. In taking the above benefits into consideration, the R-Gas Torch provides superior cost benefits over rival processes.

What are the kerf characteristics associated with the R-Gas Torch?

The tube will vaporize a kerf slightly larger than the diameter of the tube. Thus, a 1/4" diameter tube will make a 1/4" kerf; and a 3/8" tube will make a 3/8" kerf. The kerf is well within re-weld tolerance. Moreover, the resulting flash is easy to remove, since it differs from traditional slag due to the absence of preheating.

How precise a hole can be pierced?

On most materials, a the tube  will make a very precise hole capable of accepting a 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" bolt respectively. The hole can also be enlarged to accommodate other sized bolts or rivets. To enlarge a hole, the operator merely moves the tube in a circle, thereby vaporizing the sides of the hole until the desired diameter, or slot configuration, is achieved.

How clean a gouge can be removed?

In contrast to air-carbon-arc gouging, the tube gouging is done flat (or parallel) to the plane of the work. The operator pushes the tube along the material to vaporize a trough. A flat tube eliminates undercutting. A slight angle to the tube will increase the depth of the scarf. Since there is no carbon in the tube, there is no resulting carbon contamination. Thus, no problem with re-welding, and no need for grinding. The resulting flash will refuse into the weld puddle.
